BMSW 2 while travelling...

Sometimes timing doesn't always work. I knew when I signed up for BMSW 2 that at the end of the first week I would be travelling with my family to Ohio for a family reunion. No big deal, I thought. I could make wise choices at restaurants, workout, etc. Then as I went through each workout and plugging my food into fitness pal during the week, I thought I do not want to fall behind. Ron has been a great help, he booked a hotel with a fitness center. While the rest of my team was doing E.J.'s challenge this morning, I did 60 minutes on the treadmill at our hotel. Last night I did 60 on the elliptical. I have been so tempted to just say let's go get a baked potato at Wendy's or something easy like that, but on Wednesday night I put some chicken breasts in the crockpot, packed some healthy food and I have been eating my own food. This morning was old fashioned oatmeal with protein powder, chia seeds, and some pumpkin pie spice. I had prepared that at home and put it into a ziploc bag. It will also be my breakfast tomorrow.  Our hotel room also has a micro and fridge. Now it has turned into a challenge/game for me to see how I can get around not eating at restaurants while on the program. Yesterday for dinner, we hit the local Kroger and made a salad at the salad bar and then I topped it with the chicken I brought from home. I am planning that as well for tonight. For a snack, I brought rice cakes and topped it with a little bit of peanut butter.

Today we will visit with family at another hotel in Berlin, OH. Yes, we have Amish/Mennonite heritage. I still have an Amish aunt - well she would be my great - great aunt. She is in her 90's and is a lot of fun. I have a lot of great cooks in my extended family that I will be struggling with temptations today.  Think chicken and noodles, mashed potatoes with gravy, homemade rolls, fresh baked pies, caramel cake, cookies, etc. It's a battle against the genetics. I will be taking some of my own food along.  Kroger salad  bar will come in handy once again. I am determined to succeed though and I pray that I can hold onto to that during the temptations.

Tomorrow will be a big challenge also and I am kind of worried about it. We are planning on going to the Columbus Zoo for the day. I am so thankful that Ron and the kids are being so supportive of not going to restaurants. This is usually a big part of our vacation, trying new restaurants and new food. I stress a lot about food. In my early twenties I was diagnosed with Hypoglycemia and noticed if I didn't have protein on a regular basis it would cause me to "crash."  Headaches and lethargic.  I am thankful I don't have to treat it with medication, but just have to be super careful about getting protein in. As I get older I have noticed I have become more sensitive with added sugars and carbs. I am positive that the eating habits I will pick up with the boot camp will help me towards better health.

Missed you all today, but will see you Monday evening at weigh in!

  1. You can do it Tina!! Great job on packing you own meals. It gave me some ideas for my own weekend. I also am traveling this weekend, to Kentucky, with my parents and brother for a family reunion. I know there are going to be so many temptations food-wise....because, oh man can that family cook! It is super encouraging to know that you are sticking it out though! I have a much better outlook for my weekend now.

  3. Missed you this morning as well. Love reading how well you planned for the trip. Planning is so important because it helps prepare you for the possible problems by already having alternatives ready to do. So glad that Ron and the kids are supportive and helping you that is also a very important key. Hopefully as you battle the food issues you will still be able to relax and enjoy your vacation and time with family.

  6. So proud of you! Love that you made special grocery shopping to keep you on track during your vacation. Love that you cooked and packed your own food too.
The battle for your health is worth the battle for new healthy habits!
I love that your blog is helping Kimberly with plans and outlook on her own travelling weekend!
Way to go Ron on finding a hotel with fitness center, microwave and fridge and being supportive on not eating out.

  7. So the last Kroger we stopped at on the way home, did not have a salad bar, but I could make my own sandwich. I think I stayed within calories, but my sodium might of been up because of the oven baked turkey deli meat. Lesson learned, still ok with what I chose. I was super tired at the time and almost reverted to a fast food restaurant, but held strong. This last week has been such a learning experience.
