My Nemesis

I may have met my match in the gym. Something which I find so horrible, I have yet to push myself to use it more than 5 minutes and those 5 minutes were rough. I thought I was going to die, (well… maybe that is a bit dramatic, but for reals it kicked my butt). What is this awful thing you ask? Drum roll please…..the stair stepper/stair climber/stair master…. whatever name it goes by, I find it to be evil. The first time I tried it would have been last week. I was actually too worried about not being able to do it that I didn’t even choose it during the Friday morning challenge. I did however give it a go when I went back that evening, and yep, 5 minutes was all made myself do. Today I decided to give it another go, and I did a whole whopping 3 minutes! Yikes! I am a fairly determined person when it comes to something I want to accomplish, so I was pretty disappointed with myself. I am not used to not having the drive to push myself through and get it done.  I am not sure what to do with this odd feeling I now have, but don’t you worry I will figure it out and….

One day stair machine, one day I will conquer you!

  1. You are not alone!
I have a love/hate relationship with that machine!
I love how many calories I burn, and it IS fun to watch sweat drip off of my elbows!
I hate how hard it is!
The first few times I got on the machine I only did 3 or 5 minutes. It took me way longer than Frank before I could hang with the stair stepper.
You can make it a game. Get a personal record each time, make it longer than before!

  2. That machine and Jacob's Ladder have had that same effect on each of us that start using them I think. I remember how disappointed I was when I first tried it. Here is what I did. Each week I would set a goal of how long I would stay on there by the end of the week. I tried to find something reasonable but challenging. Then each day I would go over to the machine during my individual workout and each day to push myself further towards that goal. When I made that goal I then would set a new one. After getting myself on there for 20 minutes I then changed my goal from time to a number of floors to reach at one time by the end of the week. You are right you will conquer this machine and when Jacob's Ladder comes you will conquer that as well.
