Meal Planning
I've never been good at meal planning. I actually enjoy cooking, but I work until 6 and it was common for me to call my husband after work to see what sounded good. Occasionally we would come up with something that I could throw together quickly when I got home, but most of the time I'd end up grabbing something incredibly unhealthy at a drive-thru. Although I have avoided the fast-food windows since this journey began, I admit I still have not done a good job of meal planning. I usually come home without a plan and it has turned into a free for all. There have been times that I've made something that everyone eats, but often I make something for myself & they end up making something else.  The something else has been things like ramen noodles, Kraft mac-n-cheese, frozen nuggets, cereal, cold meat or peanut butter sandwiches. In other words, I may be eating healthier, but my family is getting the short end of the stick and eating (mostly) crap. My daughter I were talking about this earlier and she said that when I told her that I had to avoid restaurants during boot camp she was excited that we would be having good dinners every night. I am sorry that I've fallen short in this area. I spent some time today looking thru cook-books & cruising websites to come up with plans for dinners this week. I am looking forward to trying some new healthier recipes.

One thing you might want to try is crock-pot dinners. Tina Troyer has a cookbook with recipes in there that are also healthy. Edna and I just tried the Sloppy Joes one this weekend and it came out good. Another thing you can do is prepare meals over the weekend. Make up large quantities that you then can use for leftovers or do extra meat that you then can add sides to quickly. It takes planning but it is very important. Keep up on the work and you will get the meals down just like you are getting the other things down.
